Educating consumers about investment

The User First Design Group worked with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) to develop a guide for consumers about investment. This project followed from a training course about visualisation and information design.

ASIC had collected a lot of content about investments and investing and had made several attempts to structure the material.

What we did

The goal was to help people think and act on an investment approach suited to their own situation. Our breakthrough was to ‘put the user first’ and develop an information structure around a six-step process.

We worked with the ASIC communication team to develop text and graphics that were simple, clear and accurate. The design incorporates a ‘between that flags’ theme that ASIC uses to liken investment to swimming safely at the beach.

Results

ASIC undertook user testing before publication. Feedback from the community since the launch has been very positive.
